3 Video Games You Can Play This July
Although June was a fabulous month for gamers – with E3 2015 taking place in Los Angeles, California – July is essentially a gaming drought. Video game publishers and developers generally wait until the end of the year to release their biggest blockbusters, as October, November, and December are the best months for capitalizing on those pre-Christmas holiday sales.
But does that mean that there’s nothing whatsoever to play? Absolutely not! The pickings may be slim but there are still some good games on offer. So, here are three games that you can play this July.
1. F1 2015
As the title suggests, the new racing game from Codemasters focuses on the 2015 Formula One season.
As a result, all of your favourite drivers and teams are included here, with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, and Sebastian Vettel, who will be driving on picture perfect recreations of real world tracks. Codemasters has also developed this using an all new version of their EGO game engine, which should make for much better physics, and is particularly handy on the game’s new ‘Pro Season’ mode which uses traction, transmission, and more to offer the most difficult level of racing possible.
2. EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA Tour
If you’re a fan of golf then you’ll know that Tiger Woods hasn’t been at his best for a while. Not only has golf’s best known name struggled recently (he is now ranked 195th in the world), but he has also been at the center of some very messy and very public scandals in his personal life too. It’s probably for the best then, that EA SPORTS replaced him with current golfer du jour, Rory McIlroy.
Other than a new name and face on the box, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour uses the Frostbite game engine for some truly incredible visuals. From the fairway to the bunker and your golfer themselves, every pixel in the game looks ridiculously good. The golf physics aren’t half bad either as EA SPORTS also promises “three unique swing mechanics and fully customizable gameplay styles” when the game launches on July 14.
3. God of War 3 Remastered
For almost a decade, God of War has been one of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises. It stars Kratos, who was once a brilliant Spartan warrior but after making a deal with the God of War (Ares) and accidentally killing his wife and daughter as a result, his body is bonded with their ashes and he now seeks revenge. In the GoW games, players control a perpetually pissed off Kratos as he defeats many beasts, skeleton warriors, and popular figures from Greek mythology (including gods themselves) and the sheer scale of these battles is what has made the series popular.
God of War 3 is regarded as the best of these games, as Kratos launches an assault on Mount Olympus. On PS3 it looked phenomenal but on PS4 it can look even better, which is why God of War 3 Remastered will be released on Sony’s new console on July 14.
