Everyone knows and loves YouTube, whether you’re using it to watch the latest Taylor Swift music video, checking out funny cat videos, or you’re catching up on last night’s Jimmy Fallon episode. YouTube is one of the most popular and downloaded apps of all time, and millions-no, billions of people use it. Now, YouTube is going to make its fan base even happier (and possibly land even more fans) with its brand new YouTube Music app.

The app, which launched yesterday, offers subscribers a service that gets rid of all ads for $10/per month, though you can use the actual app (with ads) for free. YouTube Music features an app that you can listen to even when you don’t have Internet service or Wi-Fi, which makes it handy for commuters going through tunnels or riding the subway. The app will continue playing while users jump from app to app, sending emails, texts, or checking the Web. Offline playback is a definite plus.

Essentially, paid music apps like Apple Music are keeping profits alive in the digital age. Since few people actually buy CDs anymore, paid subscriptions keep artists and producers making money from songs and albums. YouTube hopes to be a worthy competitor alongside other streaming music services. There are already over 6 million subscribers to the service, and if you sign up for a free trial, you may become a subscriber, too.

So what makes YouTube Music so different from other music apps? There are several ways, actually. Not only is it a straightforward music app that can stream over 30 million songs, but you can use the app in a variety of fun and interesting ways. There is a karaoke option, instrument instruction videos, and live concerts to listen to and watch, which other streaming services simply don’t offer.

You can’t make your own playlist, but you may like the daily playlist that YouTube makes for you. This list may combine music you already like with some suggestions from the app. Like other streaming services, you can browse artists by genre or by name, and look at their previous albums and singles as well as current music. There’s also a cool feature that brings Pandora to mind, where YouTube will play music similar to an artist you already listen to, creating a mix of songs you may find engaging.

You can also view the most popular videos on YouTube. The main difference between YouTube and other streaming services is that YouTube has an advantage that those services don’t: the combination of video media and music together makes listening and watching interesting and fun. Early reviews say that the service is well worth $10 a month. What do you think about YouTube music?

The app is available on Android and Apple devices.
