Will the New iPhone 7 Have Two Rear Cameras?
Rumors are abounding when it comes to the latest Apple technology, which may be the latest iPhone to hit the shelves at year’s end. The iPhone 7 is rumored to have not one but two rear-facing cameras. Is there any truth to this rumor, and why would a phone require two rear cameras?
The word on the street is that Apple is looking for any way to garner interest in a new phone, since sales are down for the iconic iPhone. With consumers being deluged by so many tech items, phones, tablets, wearables, and other gadgets, the iPhone may be getting lost in the shuffle, so drastic measures may be required to get consumers to love the iPhone like they used to, or at least go out and purchase it the week it hits shelves. Apple recently saw its slowest quarter ever since it first launched the pivotal phone in 2007, which is cause for some concern for the successful brand. Of course, the brand is blaming the economy, but maybe people simply weren’t moved to buy the latest phone.
The purpose of the dual cameras will appeal to photography buffs who love using their iPhones to snap shots: one lens would be a wide-angle lens, and the other would be a telephoto lens. Both lenses would give users 12 MP picture quality.
Why are Apple’s sales slowing? As most fans of the brand know, dramatic changes occur only every other year, and on “off” years (2015, for instance) sales have been showing signs of less interest among consumers. After all, why upgrade your phone if there isn’t going to be many differences in the features? The shiny new rose gold shade simply wasn’t enough to drive sales of the 6S and 6S Plus high enough for Apple to make the profits the company expected/desired. So with the iPhone 7, likely due out next fall sometime, the brand is ready to take things up a notch and get buyers’ interest with some brand new features.
One of the rear lenses would be equipped with a zoom. Though this new lens feature sounds pretty cool, Apple didn’t pioneer the technology. As it turns out, HTC already tried this feature but it didn’t work out well, and nobody heard much about it after that.
Will two lenses be enough to breathe life back into the iPhone? Will consumers be excited to get their hands on an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus? For buyers who don’t give a care at all how many lenses their phones have, there will be traditional options that only have one lens. Of course, the two lens option will be an upsell, likely sold at a higher price.
Apple is holding out hope that next year’s numbers will reflect an increase in sales, and predict that the dual-lens camera will have something to do with that. Would you buy a new iPhone to get two cameras? Or would you need more features to convince you to upgrade?
