Welcome Home, Alexa. Available on the Amazon Echo
Do you love using Siri? Enjoy the company of Cortana? Then you’ll likely be amazed by Alexa, Amazon’s own digital personal assistant. Many people are enjoying the addition of Alexa to their homes, and with two new devices on the way, there are multiple options for home personal assistants.
What is Alexa? Similar to how Siri helps you navigate your iPhone or iPad, Alexa can help you navigate your computer as well as your home. Alexa comes in the form of a speaker, called the Echo, and connects your home to a digital network. Using voice commands, you can program Alexa to turn your home lights on and off, play your favorite songs, shop online, tell you the weather, or update you on sports stats. With Alexa’s popularity really taking off, Amazon has now decided to add more devices to the Alexa line of products.
These two new items, including the Dot and the Tap, are portable, powerful devices you can use to integrate Alexa further into your home. Dot, which is a small disc, fits atop your Echo speaker for even more capabilities, and the Tap is a battery powered, portable version of the wired Echo device.
Amazon is hoping to achieve a futuristic “smart home” feel for its consumers that the brand hopes will really take off with the addition of these new Alexa devices. Many people are finding that having personal assistants can be very convenient, if not necessary for busy, multitasking humans trying to get as much done as possible in one day.
Imagine walking in your home and not having to touch the light switch, turn on your fans, arm your security alarm, or switch on your TV-you could get used to that, right? That’s what Amazon is counting on as they expand their Alexa line.
Alexa joins a distinguished array of popular voice assistants, including Siri, Cortana, and Google Now, and Amazon believes that voice activated assistants are truly the future. With multiple capabilities (over 300, to be precise) Alexa can even tell you a story or play a game with you. Of course, you can easily order items on Amazon using Alexa as a guide.
With the popularity of the device surging due to its Superbowl commercial appearance, Amazon is ready to take the Alexa one step further. How well is Alexa selling? We don’t know numbers yet, but at 179.99, the Echo, (featuring Alexa) the Dot (90.00) and the Tap (130.00) are affordable ways to bring this fun, convenient technology into your home.
How do you feel about owning a voice assistant for home use? Do you think it would be fun and helpful, too? Both new devices release at the end of March.
